At GLO Farm Sanctuary, we provide more than just shelter—we offer a second chance at life in a world-class, compassionate care facility dedicated to rescued farm animals. Nestled in a peaceful, natural setting, our sanctuary is a forever home where every resident is treated as a cherished individual, not a commodity.
Guided by the principles of ethical veganism, anti-speciesism, and the rigorous standards of the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), we are committed to exceeding the physical, emotional, and social needs of each animal in our care. Our team works tirelessly to ensure that every being—from the day they arrive to their final moments—is respected, nurtured, and loved.
This is a place where healing happens, joy is rediscovered, and animals are free to simply be themselves—safe, seen, and celebrated.
GLO Farm Sanctuary is a compassionate refuge for rescued farm animals, situated on over 200 acres of pasture and forest on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. Established in 2015, the sanctuary provides a forever home for animals such as cows, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, and even a peacock, ensuring their physical, social, and emotional needs are not just met but exceeded .
A distinctive feature of GLO Farm Sanctuary is its on-site veterinary care. This comprehensive care ensures that each animal thrives from the day they arrive to their final days .
Our dedicated caregiver team working alongside our veterinarian provide regular health checks and urgent care right here on the farm — minimizing stress and maximizing comfort for our residents.
Routine blood testing helps us catch underlying health conditions and fine-tune nutrition and treatment plans for each individual animal.
Non-invasive ultrasound imaging allows us to monitor internal health and diagnose issues early, especially for older or medically fragile animals.
Our mobile X-ray capabilities ensure we can quickly assess injuries or skeletal concerns — no long, stressful trips to outside clinics needed.
Mission: To accredit and recognize sanctuaries and rescue centers, support them to achieve the highest Standards of Excellence, promote collaboration, and raise awareness of their work.
Ali Valentine founded GLO Farm Sanctuary in 2015 after volunteering at another animal sanctuary and witnessing firsthand the deep need for lifelong care for rescued farmed animals. Inspired to take action, she moved from the city to a rural property where GLO’s first residents—four senior cattle—arrived. One of them, Patricia, continues to thrive at the sanctuary and celebrated her 22nd birthday in May 2025.
Ali has always had a profound love for animals and has dedicated her life to serving these vulnerable individuals. Under her leadership, GLO has grown into a trusted sanctuary known for its compassionate care, medical excellence, and commitment to education and advocacy.
None of GLO’s success would be possible without the incredible community of staff and volunteers who support every aspect of sanctuary life—from daily animal care to fundraising and outreach. Their dedication makes GLO’s mission not only possible but sustainable.
